Calla's Travels

Calla as well as mom and dad have been busy the last couple of weeks. Mom had a conference first in Eugene so dad and Calla came down for dinner one night and she got to meet lots of my co-workers. She was a trooper and stayed up until 8:30, her usual bedtime has been 6:30. Then this week we all headed to La Conner, WA for another workshop. This was a big adventure as we all stayed in a hotel room together for three nights. Unfortunately, it did not go as well as we had all hoped. Scott and I survived on much less sleep then we are used to as Calla woke up several times each night and we had to work to keep her from crying in the hotel room. We were all glad to sleep in our own beds last night. Here are a few pictures from our adventures in WA.

Walking along the shore in Bellingham, WA.

Hurry up and take the picture dad, my nose is getting cold!

Calla loves taking walks and looking at all the leaves. She is also getting very interested in grabbing things. Here she is taking a close look at the leaf.

We think Calla is getting her first tooth, so we are using LOTS and LOTS of bibs these days to catch the drool. She also really likes to chew on them.

We also stopped at Nisqually Wildlife Refgue on our way home yesterday. It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed the fresh air.

"Talking" Calla

Scott caught some great footage of Calla "talking" to herself. She has started to roll over from her back to her stomach now. She is growing really fast.

Laughing Calla

Calla is now trying to help feed herself and it gets a little messy. One thing is becoming clear though is that she definitely favors her left hand to do most things. I am not sure if these things change or not, but it will be at least interesting to follow which hand she uses most. She really enjoys her peas, sweet potatoes, and apple sauce/bananas. She is getting two meals of solid food a day now.
Calla has finished her first month of day care going three mornings a week. Starting this week she will be going every morning Monday thru Friday, while dad starts to work a little more. Calla and I have had a great month hanging out together. I hope all is well with everyone and enjoy this pictures and especially the video!

It is fun to chew on these spoon things.

This is NOT ICE CREAM!

Happy 6 month Birthday Calla

It was not birthday cake, but I think Calla liked it just as much and ate it like a birthday cake should be eaten by a baby. Calla turned 6 months old today and is doing great. She is becoming a very active little girl and managing one meal of home made apple sauce and rice ceral a day to supplement the breast milk. She is getting so big.
We are on our second week of going to day-care three mornings a week and it is going very well. I drop her off around 8:15 and go to work until 12:30 and then pick her up. The day-care center is right on the Oregon State campus where I work, so it is just a few minutes away. Every time I pick her up she is either sleeping or hanging out with the other kids. She smiles at all the ladies taking care of her and is always in a good mood. Calla and I have also been enjoying our time together all day on Tuesday and Thursday and every afternoon. We go on long walks in the afternoon with Aspen in tow and entertain ourselves in any fashion we can the rest of the time. So enjoy these pictures we took today to celebrate her birthday.

Yum!

Feed me more mommy!

Calla is playing so hard, she falls sleep right in the middle of playing.

Scott survived his first week at home with Calla and they had a wonderful time. Calla has been full of smiles and laughs, well I guess I would be too if I got 12 hours of sleep a night. Calla's other big adventure this week was that she started part-time day care. She will be going to the KinderCare on OSU's campus M,W,F in the morning for 3-4 hours for now. In November she will start 5 half-days and then in January she will start full-time. Wednesday was her first day and it was harder on me then her or Scott. She did just fine and was the bell of the ball. She was full of smiles and even managed to take a 1 hour nap. It is so hard believe that she will be six months old soon. She has grown so fast. There are a few pictures of her most recent activities below.

Calla is getting ready for election day by sporting her tiny Democrate outfit.

Calla has been really enjoying looking at flowers recently. Everytime we walk by our neighbors house we have to stop and let her look at the purple flowers, they are tall and usually blowing in the wind and Calla loves to watch them move.

Last Sunday our friends from the NICU came for a visit. It was nice to catch up and see all the changes that Madison had made. Both girls enjoyed sitting in their bumbo in the sun.
